posterz.

Just a few of my favourite drafts so far for my Design and Image Poster Design project. For the assignment I have to create a poster for an event at York by using a bag of feathers and the 400 word virgin unicorn story that I was given and make a nice composition. You might be wondering, i see the feathers, but unicorn? whaaat? Well, I figured that Id be all representational and instead of placing real unicorn imagery (gross) i would somehow allude to the idea of uni by having the single different feather in the composition. Its pretty BS reasoning, but fuck it, ARTISTIC FREEDOM BITCHES. Anyways, these are my first drafts...the last one is my faaaaave.

I made a poster.

  1. Ive discovered that I really enjoy making posters and bookcovers.
  2. Im gonna get this guy printed just because.
  3. I should start using Shades as an alias. I can be the Neo of design.
  4. I think I'm gonna steal this idea for a school assignment...is it considered plagiarism if youre copying yourself?

Strain 32.

I painted a blob and then drew lines and shapes around it. I like it.

Love your fish.

I was at the York bookstore, flipping through an art magazine. Page after page I thought to myself "I can do this, this isn't hard". But then I realized, how can I do this, if I don't actually start doing it?

All I do is sketch and doodle and that has to change. So thus, this is the beginning of me actually doing it. I'm actually gonna make things!

The worst part about it, is that upon finishing this painting, my dad comes up to me and goes "You really should be in illustration." Thanks Dad, I've known that for a while now.

I read a good book.

"There is always hope. The world is vast and meant for wandering. There is always somewhere else to go" - Nick Burd.

25.2.10

A poor caricature of myself. I wanted to use this as the header of this blog, but for some reason Im disallowed to do so by Blogger. Perhaps my file is too large. I shall investigate I suppose...

Bulbus.

First you doodle an array of shaky lines on the city bus ride, then you smear a concoction of watercolors in a seemingly haphazard but thoroughly thought through way and finish by emphasizing those watercolor blobs by lining them with a 0.5 marker. The final result?

This piece du masterness. Eh, its nothing special.

A boy.

"There was a boy a ran away, from what he didn't know. Whom, he wouldn't say, He just had to go."

My sketches of people are still rather...sketchy. Its surprising that I drew a guy, as I generally lean towards doodling girls (mostly because I think my guys are never as attractive as the real thing) but I really do wish I could make things look more realistic without having to use a life models as a guide. I think the secret to conquering lies within perfecting 2 crucial things: foreshortening + faces.

Time to get practicing I guess.

Red mits.

Inspired by a mix of Olympic spirit, patriotism and late winter snow storms. I'm just now slowly figuring out how different media reacts to the paper in my little (fake) moleskin. Being a pencil crayon/Prismacolor expert, I can't say Im overly enthusiastic as to how the crayons cover, but alas...guess I'll have to make it work.

21.2.10

tea princess.

Bald, boney, naked alien beings love tea just as much as anybody. I fixed the picture in real life and gave her a spoon after i realized that she might want some sugar with her tea.

Gotta say though, purchasing a (non-leather) moleskin was just possibly one of the best ideas Ive had in weeks. What a compact, classy little book it is. I need to stock up on 0.2 pens though. Anyone wanna contribute to the fund?

Moley.

Train doodles from the ye ole moleskin.

11.2.10

simply because.

Another arbitrary product made by boredom. I wish i made productive things instead.

Orange Flavoured Cupcakes!

my first attempt at cupcakes was a moderate success! I am so happy. Next on the list, a full size torte.

Allium.

Tea stain, watercolor and pencil crayon on illustration board.

Visual Language

This is a collection of pieces I had made last semester for my final Visual Language project.

birds 2.

My most recent creation. Acrylic on illustration board with adhesive fake wood wallpaper cut out things.

Cookies.

Ive been baking quite a bit lately. Nothing too overly exciting mostly just butter cookies, but they are so yummy and fun to make as well.

Buttercookies! These are my own invention (not really) but they are the tried and true recipe. Poppa Kozak demands them every christmas, and being the great daughter I am, I deliver.

Egg yolk cookies rolled in walnuts!

I tried to be Starbucks and make my own lemon poppyseed cake. It was lemoney and there were definitely poppyseeds as well but it just wasn't the same. I think it needs more butter for it to be Starbucksy enough...one day

And lastly, I made meringue. Eggwhitey nommy-ness!

Snickerdoodle!

I made these little cute guys recently. They're vanilla butter cookies rolled in a sugar and cinnamon. So yummy.

Filus.

i made this masterpiece in grade 2. The green is carpeting done in acrylic, the wall is also acrylic, and my kitty and the mouse are paper cut outs stuck on some with glue. Apparently I was the master of multimedia at 8 years old.

I miss my friends.

Birds

Im not very clever when it comes to making things in Illustrator. I do however, love birds.
